SolidWorks to Blender: Product Renders Without Tessellation Pain
Product renders live or die on surface quality, and surface quality in a SolidWorks to Blender workflow is decided entirely by how the solids get tessellated.
Tessellation Is the Whole Problem
SolidWorks models are solids built from analytic and NURBS surfaces. Blender renders triangles. Every export makes an irreversible decision about how many triangles a fillet gets.
Too few and a highlight rolling across a chamfer breaks into visible bands — the one thing a product render cannot survive. Too many and a mid-size assembly becomes tens of millions of triangles before you have added a single light.
Assembly structure is the second loss. A STEP or FBX export typically arrives as either one merged object or a flat list of parts with no subassembly grouping, which makes material assignment on a hundred-part product tedious.
Appearances set in SolidWorks rarely translate into anything usable in Cycles.
Control the Mesh, Keep the Assembly
CAD Bridger makes tessellation quality a setting you choose per send, so visible surfaces can be fine and internal components coarse in the same operation.
The assembly tree maps to Blender collections, with subassemblies nested as they are in SolidWorks. Part names survive. Repeated components come through as instances, so a product with forty identical fasteners does not carry forty copies of that geometry.
Appearances and part colours arrive as Blender materials you can develop into proper Cycles shaders, applied consistently across every instance of a part.
Iterate Without Losing the Studio
Product design iterates fast, and the Blender side of a product render is real work: studio lighting, HDRI setup, a floor, a camera, careful shaders.
Resending an updated SolidWorks model updates the geometry and leaves that studio intact. Change a housing, adjust a bracket, resend, render. No re-import, no reassignment, no rebuilding the lighting.
