Archicad to Blender: From Building Model to Render Scene
Archicad's own rendering is capable, but it is not Blender. The question has always been how to get the building across without spending the afternoon repairing the result.
Where Archicad Exports Fall Short
Archicad thinks in walls, slabs, roofs and objects, each with building materials and classifications attached. Blender thinks in meshes. Every export format between them flattens the first into the second.
Composite structures are the clearest example. A wall built from a five-layer composite exports as a single mesh, so the insulation, cavity and finish that were separate in Archicad become one object with one material in Blender.
Layer combinations and renovation filters do not travel either, which means the model you carefully set up to show one design option arrives as everything at once.
Morphs and complex profiles usually survive geometrically but lose the naming that made them findable.
Structure That Arrives Intact
CAD Bridger maps Archicad layers to Blender collections and keeps element names, so a Blender scene stays navigable at the scale a real building requires.
Surfaces come across as Blender materials, with UVs preserved so textures sit where you placed them. Classifications and element properties are available as custom properties, which is useful when you want to select every element of a type across the whole model.
You choose what to send: which layers, which storeys, which level of geometric detail. A competition image and a detailed interior need different amounts of model, and both are one operation rather than two exports.
Keep Rendering While the Design Moves
Archicad projects are living documents. Storey heights change, façades get revised, the client asks for a different roof.
Because CAD Bridger tracks elements between the two applications, resending updates matching objects in Blender rather than importing a duplicate building. The materials, lighting, cameras and Blender-only assets you added remain in place.
You get Blender's Cycles rendering, Geometry Nodes and asset ecosystem without giving up Archicad as the model of record.
Availability
The Archicad connector is available now. The beta is free while we send invites weekly.
Frequently asked questions
Do Archicad layers become Blender collections?
Yes. Layers map to collections and element names are preserved, so large building models stay navigable in Blender.
What happens to Archicad surfaces and textures?
Surfaces arrive as Blender materials with UVs preserved, so textures keep the placement and scale they had in Archicad.
Can I send only certain storeys or layers?
Yes. Storeys, layers and level of detail are all part of the sync rules you set before sending.
