Allplan to Blender: Move Precise Building Models Into Cycles
Allplan is built for precision — reinforced concrete, engineering detail, construction-grade models. Rendering that level of detail in Blender should not require rebuilding the model.
Detail Is the Difficulty
The strength of an Allplan model is also what makes it hard to render. Construction-level detail means geometry counts that comfortably overwhelm a Blender scene if you send everything without filtering.
Standard export formats give you no filter. IFC carries structure but arrives in Blender as a heavy, awkwardly organised import. Mesh formats drop the structure entirely and leave you with a monolith.
Allplan's drawing files and layer structure — the way the model is actually navigated — do not survive either route in a form Blender can use.
Send What the Camera Sees
CAD Bridger approaches this the other way round. You define what belongs in the render scene before anything is sent: which drawing files, which layers, which level of geometric detail.
Structure that comes across maps to Blender collections. Element names and properties are preserved as custom properties, so you can select and assign materials across the model by type rather than by clicking.
Surfaces become Blender materials, and mesh density for curved and detailed elements is a setting rather than a surprise.
Engineering Models Change Constantly
Coordination changes, structural revisions, updated reinforcement layouts — an Allplan model is rarely static for long.
Because CAD Bridger updates matched objects instead of reimporting the file, the Blender scene you built around the model survives each revision. Materials, lighting, cameras and any context you added stay put.
That makes Blender usable for progress imagery and coordination visuals, not only final presentation renders.
Availability
The Allplan connector is planned and not yet released. Archicad, Revit, Rhino and SketchUp are available today. Join the waitlist to influence which connector we build next.
Frequently asked questions
Is there an Allplan to Blender connector available now?
Not yet. Allplan is on the roadmap; Archicad, Revit, Rhino and SketchUp connectors are available today.
How do you handle very heavy Allplan models?
You filter before sending — by drawing file, layer and level of detail — so only what the render needs reaches Blender.
Is this better than IFC import into Blender?
IFC gives a one-time snapshot that has to be reimported and reorganised on every change. CAD Bridger updates the existing Blender objects in place.
